Before you start
Moving a library takes three things: the music files, a spreadsheet (CSV) that describes them, and, from forScore, any setlists you want to keep. SheetScroll reads them all in one go, matches every row of the spreadsheet to its file by name, and shows you what it will do before anything is imported.
- What it reads: PDFs and every other format SheetScroll opens, CSV spreadsheets, and forScore setlist files (.4ss).
- What it doesn't read: forScore's .4sb backups and archives, or MobileSheets' .msb backups. Use the CSV and the files themselves instead.
- Your originals: SheetScroll keeps its own copy and never changes your files.
- Cost: moving a library is part of the free reader.
From forScore
- In forScore, open the Backups panel and tap the scrolled page icon in its top left-hand corner. Export your metadata as a CSV file.
- Copy your PDFs out of forScore. forScore keeps them in its Documents folder, which its user guide describes copying to a computer with File Sharing.
- If you have shared setlists from forScore as setlist files (.4ss), gather those too.
- Put the CSV, your PDFs and the .4ss files in one folder, on the device where SheetScroll runs or in a cloud folder it can reach.
- In SheetScroll's library, tap Add and choose From another app, then Choose a folder and pick that folder.
- Check the summary under What will happen, then tap Import.
What comes across: titles, composers, genres, tags and keys from the CSV; bookmarks become pieces of their own, cut from their book at the bookmarked pages; and each .4ss file becomes a setlist with its pieces in order.
forScore lets you rename its metadata types, and its CSV uses your names. SheetScroll reads those columns by their position, so renamed columns still land in the right place.
From MobileSheets
- Gather the PDFs your MobileSheets library uses. They are often still in the folder or cloud drive you first imported them from.
- Keep each CSV next to its PDF, with the same name: the CSV files MobileSheets uses to split a large PDF into songs work as they are.
- If you have a song list MobileSheets generated and saved to a file, put it in the same folder too.
- In SheetScroll's library, tap Add and choose From another app, then Choose a folder and pick the folder.
- Check the summary under What will happen, then tap Import.
What comes across: titles, composers, genres, tags, keys and setlists, with page ranges such as 1-3 or 4-6 split into separate pieces. Lists inside a cell, such as several tags, are read with MobileSheets' vertical bar (|) separator.
From another app or a spreadsheet of your own
Any CSV with file names or titles works. It can add titles, composers, tags and setlists to the files beside it. SheetScroll guesses what each column means from its heading, and on the review screen you can set Exported from to forScore, MobileSheets or Other spreadsheet, choose the list separator (commas, vertical bars or semicolons) and change what any column means.
Without a spreadsheet, a folder of files still comes across: each score is imported with what SheetScroll can read from the file itself.
What the review screen shows
When everything is clear (every spreadsheet comes from forScore or MobileSheets and every row found its file), the move runs at once. Otherwise SheetScroll shows the plan first:
- How many scores will be made from how many files, and how many pieces are split from books.
- How many spreadsheet rows matched a file. Rows with no file are skipped and marked.
- Files that aren't in the spreadsheet; they are still imported.
- The setlists it will create, by name.
- Files that aren't scores, which are left out.
- A preview of the rows: title, composer, file, pages, tags and setlists.
Tap Import to go ahead, or Choose other files to start again. A progress bar shows each file as it comes in, and you can stop at any time.
After the move
The summary lists the scores imported, files skipped because they were already in your library, and each setlist created or added to. If a setlist with the same name already exists, its missing pieces are added to it. Any file that couldn't be imported is listed with the reason, and Import more lets you bring in another folder.
- Markings: SheetScroll shows a PDF exactly as it is, so anything that is part of the PDF comes across. Markings kept only in your old app's own data don't.
- Your other devices: turn on sync in Settings → Sync (your own iCloud Drive, Google Drive or a synced folder, end-to-end encrypted) and the library follows you.
- Pedals: pair your Bluetooth pedal in the device's settings; most work as they are. See Bluetooth page-turn pedals.
- Listening: with SheetScroll Pro, open a score and play. It turns the page two beats before the end, never early. See Automatic page turning.
If you can't pick a folder
Where a device can't pick a whole folder, the button reads Choose files: select all the PDFs, the CSV and the .4ss files together. You can also add a folder through the ordinary Add → Folder: when it holds a forScore or MobileSheets spreadsheet or forScore setlists, SheetScroll recognizes a library being moved and treats it the same way.
Questions
Can I import my forScore library into SheetScroll?
Yes. Export forScore's metadata as CSV from its Backups panel, put it in a folder with your PDFs and .4ss setlists, and choose Add → From another app.
Does SheetScroll read forScore backups (.4sb)?
No. It reads forScore's CSV export, its .4ss setlist files and your PDFs, which together carry your titles, tags and setlists.
Will my MobileSheets setlists come across?
Yes, when they are in the CSV. SheetScroll creates each setlist, or adds to one with the same name.
Do I need SheetScroll Pro to move my library?
No. Moving a library is part of the free reader. Pro adds listening and automatic page turns.
What happens to files I already added?
Files already in your library are skipped, so you can run the move again safely.
