Looking for forScore on Android, Windows or Linux?

forScore is made for Apple devices only: iPad, iPhone, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. SheetScroll runs on Android, Windows and Linux as well as iPad, iPhone, Mac and the web, opens the same PDFs, and brings a forScore library across with its titles, tags and setlists. Its reader is free.

Updated

Is there a forScore app for Android, Windows or Linux?

No. forScore's site lists four platforms: iPad (iPadOS 18 or later), iPhone (iOS 18 or later), Mac (macOS 15 or later) and Apple Vision Pro (visionOS 2 or later). One purchase covers all of them. It lists no Android, Windows or Linux version, and none for the web.

So if you play from an Android tablet, keep your music on a Windows laptop, use Linux, or share a library between an iPad and a PC, you need a reader that runs there. SheetScroll runs on all of them, opens the PDFs you already have, and brings your forScore library along.

SheetScroll is the only one with a native app on every platform in the table, and it listens as you play to turn the page. MobileSheets runs on Android and Windows as well as Apple devices, with pedal, MIDI and multi-tablet features, but lists no Linux or web version and no listening turn. Newzik runs on Apple devices and in a web browser, with cloud sharing for ensembles.

Linux users: forScore and MobileSheets list no Linux version. SheetScroll ships .deb, .rpm and AppImage packages for x64 and Arm, and Newzik Web runs in a browser.

What SheetScroll does as a forScore alternative

SheetScroll is a sheet music reader with a page turner that listens. The reader is free on every platform, and it covers the everyday work a forScore user expects:

SheetScroll’s web app following a recording of the Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, with nothing scripted. The page turns two beats before its end. Sound: an excerpt of “Cello Suite – Bach” by Lud and Schlatts Musical Emporium, conducted by Philip Milman, CC BY 3.0. Score: PDMX, CC0.
  • Your own PDFs and scans, shown exactly as they look on paper, markings and all. It also opens photos of paper music, MusicXML, MuseScore, Guitar Pro, MIDI, ABC, MEI, Humdrum, chord charts and text tabs.
  • Annotations: pencil, highlighter, fingerings and symbols that stay with their bars in every view.
  • Setlists where each piece opens by itself, one after another.
  • Views: one page, two pages side by side, half-page turns, or line by line.
  • Bluetooth page-turn pedals and taps.
  • Sync through your own iCloud Drive, Google Drive or a synced folder, end-to-end encrypted. No account.

With SheetScroll Pro, it listens through the microphone, or follows a digital piano over USB or Bluetooth MIDI, and turns the page for you: two beats before the end of the page, never early. It follows repeat signs, first and second endings, D.S. and coda, and finds you again when you stop or go back.

What forScore adds

  • Apple hardware: Apple Pencil hover gestures, Apple Vision Pro, and page turns from an Apple Watch running the Cue app.
  • forScore Pro adds face gestures: turn pages with a wink, a mouth movement or a head turn, on devices that support face tracking.
  • It works with page-turning devices, MIDI signals and its own remote control system, which can turn pages on nearby devices together.
  • It can play along with an audio track.

forScore's site and store listing don't describe turning pages by listening to you play, and it runs only on Apple devices. SheetScroll does both.

Bring your forScore library across

You don't have to start over. Export your metadata as a CSV from forScore's Backups panel, put it in one folder with your PDFs and any shared setlists (.4ss files), and choose Add → From another app in SheetScroll's library. Titles, composers, tags and setlists come across, and bookmarked pieces inside a book become pieces of their own.

The full steps are in Move from forScore or MobileSheets.
