How do I set it up?
- Turn the piano on and connect it to your device by USB, or over Bluetooth MIDI.
- Open SheetScroll and go to Settings → Listening.
- Under Listen with, choose MIDI instrument. The choices are Automatic, Microphone and MIDI instrument.
- Choose your piano by name in the MIDI instrument row. The first choice, First connected (or The one you play, where that is offered), uses the instrument SheetScroll finds.
- Open a score and play. The status line reads Following, with your bar number.
Listen with and MIDI instrument appear only where your device offers MIDI to SheetScroll. If the row says None connected, SheetScroll does not see an instrument yet.
What changes with MIDI?
SheetScroll reads which notes you press and when. It does not listen to the room. That is why the Microphone row is not needed here, and why other sounds in the room do not matter.
SheetScroll follows piano, keyboards, strings, woodwinds, brass, voice and guitar with the microphone. Over MIDI it follows a digital piano’s notes themselves.
- Turns: the page turns two beats before the end of the page, as with the microphone. Change the lead in Settings → View and turns.
- Unsure moments: when two passages sound alike, SheetScroll holds the page and outlines the places it is choosing between. Keep playing, or tap the bar you are on.
- Repeats and jumps: repeat signs, endings, D.S. and coda are followed.
- Privacy: listening happens on your device.
Can one score listen differently from the rest?
Yes. Each score can use its own input. Tap the page for the controls, open View and turns, and change Listen with for that score. Use default returns it to your Settings choice.
If the cursor lags behind you, raise Cursor delay in Settings → Listening. The value is in milliseconds.
What if the piano does not show up?
- Check that the piano is on and that the cable or Bluetooth link is connected.
- Reopen Settings → Listening. The MIDI instrument row lists each instrument by name and maker.
- In Settings → Diagnostics, MIDI inputs shows whether SheetScroll can use MIDI on this device.
- A page-turn pedal is separate: pair it in your device’s Bluetooth settings. It works alongside MIDI listening.
Questions
Do I need Pro to follow a digital piano?
Yes. Listening, by microphone or MIDI, and automatic page turns are part of SheetScroll Pro. Pedals and taps turn pages in the free reader.
Can I play with headphones?
SheetScroll reads the notes the keys send, not the sound in the room, so it does not depend on the piano’s speakers.
Does it work for an acoustic piano?
Yes, through the microphone. See the listening help for where to put your device.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Listening runs on your device, in airplane mode too.
