How do I tune?
- Open a score and tap the page for the controls.
- Tap Tune.
- Play a string, or a note. The tuner prompts Play a string or Play a note.
- Read the result: Flat, Sharp or In tune. For a string instrument, it names the string, such as the D string.
- Adjust the instrument and play again until it reads In tune.
The tuner listens through the microphone, so give it a quiet moment and keep the device near the instrument.
How do I change the reference A?
Reference A shows the pitch of A in hertz. To match another instrument, choose Match and play an A on yours. SheetScroll then shows the result as A = and the hertz.
Can SheetScroll tell me when to tune?
Yes. Suggest tuning in Settings → Listening is on by default. When you pause, stop or finish a piece, SheetScroll can say that one string sounds flat or sharp, that some strings sound out of tune, or that the whole instrument sounds so many cents flat or sharp. A Retune prompt goes with it.
Pro lists “Says when to tune” among its benefits, next to turning the pages for you, showing what to practice and remarks after you play.
What about scores in other tunings?
A tab page shows its tuning, such as Half step down or Full step down. When SheetScroll had to guess, it adds “assumed”. Under Tuning and capo you can change it.
In the tuner, a line such as “This score is in standard tuning” names the tuning the score is written in, so you can tune the strings to match it.
Questions
Does the tuner need an internet connection?
No. Everything runs on your device, and sound is never recorded or sent.
Can it tune a stringed instrument?
Yes. It names the string, such as the D string, and tells you whether it sounds flat or sharp.
Can I use a different reference pitch?
Yes. Reference A is shown in hertz, and Match sets it from an A played on your instrument.
What does Suggest tuning do?
It lets SheetScroll tell you, when you pause or stop, that a string or the whole instrument sounds flat or sharp.
